R support
Chapter examples, your workspace, and the data
These pages let you run the book’s R in your browser. Nothing is installed: choose a chapter below for short demonstrations and command explanations, open the workspace for a complete script of your own, or read the data register to see what each file contains. Use them beside a chapter, a lecture, an exercise or a lab task. Desktop R and SPSS are alternative routes to the same results.
Every example on this site uses base R with the standard stats and graphics commands; no package is loaded or installed. For the buttons, the keyboard shortcuts and what to do when R reports an error, see how to run code.
Chapter pages
| Chapter | Programming support |
|---|---|
| 3: Estimates and uncertainty | Normal areas and a Normal check on real grades, grades by study intention, supplied intervals, one-mean tests, the equal-variance and Welch two-group tests with a simulation of when they differ, the records re-assigned under no effect, paired scores and the twelve school comparisons, chi-square tests of association for count tables and a three-way table read within its layers, covariance and base graphs. Chapter 2’s R examples are here too. |
| 4: Comparing groups | One-way ANOVA on the background-sound scores, its F critical value and what moves F, contrasts, the familywise error rate with Bonferroni and Tukey families, a complete factorial model, what leaving a factor out does, an interaction plot, and Welch’s one-way ANOVA with a simulation of unequal spreads. |
Your R workspace
Open your R workspace to run a supplied script, open a CSV, and save your code, your results and your interpretation. The same page carries how to run code and the fixed code and output for both chapter pages. Save your work before changing pages: each page has its own R session.
Data sources
Open the data register for every data file the site uses, with its columns, its source and its reuse terms, and the downloads for the public CSVs. Use the data your task names. Private course data are opened locally in the workspace and stay in your browser.
